The special messenger of the President of Tourism, Zita Anjani said that students have an important role as a motor change, especially in answering global challenges related to tourism and sustainability.
This was conveyed by Zita in the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) of the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) 2025 on Monday (9/22).The event was attended by approximately 3,900 new students with the theme “Green and Sustainable Global Campus”.
“Today is not just a campus introduction, but the beginning of a long journey that will determine your contribution to the nation. Students have always been the front guard in bringing positive changes, and I believe that new UMJ students are ready to answer this challenge,” said Zita.

Zita explained, that global tourism contributed 10 percent of the world’s GDP and created more than 320 million jobs, while in Indonesia, before Pandemi, this sector contributed around 6.2 percent to national GDP.
However, he stressed that numbers are no longer the main goal, but rather how tourism can move towards new directions that are green and sustainable.
Zita then alluded to a real threat faced by Indonesia, where 27 percent of ecological disaster -prone areas such as floods, drought, and coastal abrasion.According to him, this fact shows that tourism can no longer be seen as a vacation business.
“Tourism is the face of our civilization. If we fail to protect the environment, then we are eroding the DNA of Indonesian tourism itself,” said Zita.
Even so, Zita invited students to remain optimistic.He gave an example of the success story of Nusa Penida in Bali which is now much cleaner thanks to the community and student movement in waste management, as well as the Nglanggeran Tourism Village in Yogyakarta which is recognized by the world by Un Tourism as the Best Tourism Village 2021.
On the same occasion, Zita introduced a large program called Unlock Indonesia which aims to open the hidden tourism potential in the country to be known to the international world, and invites UMJ students to become part of this program.
Zita believes that new UMJ students are not only the successor to knowledge, but also the driving force of ideas, innovations, and real solutions for sustainable nation development.
“Imagine, if the green research ideas from your campus are combined with the national network, Indonesia will have new power to introduce beautiful and sustainable tourism. I invite UMJ new students to become the front guard of this big movement,” he concluded.
