China Eastern Airlines officially launches routes

This giant journey began on Thursday (4/12) from Shanghai to Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a two-hour stopover in Auckland, New Zealand, for refueling and crew rotation.
The flight from China to Argentina took more than 25 hours, while the return journey took four hours longer, earning it the title of ‘the world’s longest flight’.

, China Eastern’s service surpassed the previous record held by Singapore Airlines for a 19-hour direct route between New York and Singapore.
The race for the longest route looks to be on after Australian airline Qantas announced plans to open a new 22-hour Sydney to London route by 2027.
Passengers on this China to Argentina flight sat on a jumbo Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with a capacity of 316 seats.These flights will operate twice a week throughout the year.
The inaugural flight departed from Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 02.00 local time and arrived at Ezeiza International Airport 10 minutes ahead of schedule, namely at 16.45 local time.
China Eastern said the new route will offer a more direct option for passengers wishing to visit South America, especially considering the presence of the East Asian diaspora
which is quite large in Argentina.

, more than 55,000 Chinese-born people live in the South American country and it is one of the fastest growing communities in Argentina.
The report also found that 96,000 passengers flew between China and Buenos Aires in the 12 months to September 2025.
“This new route fills the gap in direct flights between Shanghai and major South American cities. It opens up a ‘southern corridor’ connecting opposite ends of the Pacific and reshaping air travel between the three continents,” China Eastern Airlines said in a statement.
Celebrations were held at departure and arrival destinations, while Auckland held a welcome ceremony to mark this historic achievement.
