Responding to this, Brawijaya Hospital’s cardiovascular consultant internal medicine specialist, Simon Salim, emphasized that cases of heart collapse during exercise are actually less common than cases of collapse when there is no physical activity.
“If you look at it as a whole, those who exercise have fewer sudden collapse rates than those who never exercise,” he said, quoting from

Simon explained that the causes of a person collapsing suddenly are very varied and are not always related to a heart attack.
“It depends. Not all of them are due to heart attacks. Some are due to heart rhythm disturbances,” he said.
He added that the cause of collapse could come from many other factors that are not related to the heart.
“There are others that are not caused by the heart at all, because there are many causes and it depends on the results of the autopsy,” he explained.
According to Simon, not all cases of collapse occur due to blood vessel blockage.Several other heart problems, including heart electrical problems, can also be triggers.
Are there any warning signs?
Unfortunately, until now there are no specific signs that can be a warning before someone collapses while exercising.
“Unfortunately there isn’t. So the best prevention is that everyone in public space must be able to carry out CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, must be able to carry out basic life support,” explained Simon.
He emphasized the importance of having an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in public spaces. This tool can analyze heart rhythm automatically and provide an electric shock if necessary to return the heart rhythm to normal.
“Every person, employee, or even ourselves is able to carry out basic life support. Being able to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and having AEDs in public spaces, that’s what is important,” he concluded.
