Jakarta and its surroundings are becoming increasingly familiar with
pollution
air.Dust, fine particles and vehicle fumes are almost unavoidable every time we leave the house.
Not surprisingly, many people are starting to look for simple ways to protect their breathing, one of which is washing their nose regularly.
Pediatrician at Eka Hospital Depok, Nadine Shakina Tabit, explained that washing your nose is not just for sick people.Even when healthy, this action is useful for removing dirt, dust and pollutants stuck in the nasal cavity.

“The nose is the main filter for the air we breathe. When pollution increases, the number of particles entering the nasal cavity also increases,” said Nadine in her statement when attending a media meeting, Tuesday (25/11).
He said, if the dust that enters the nose is left unchecked, it can trigger various health problems.Starting from irritation, allergies, even worsening respiratory symptoms.
Instead, according to Nadine, washing your nose can help:
• Removes dust and dirt due to pollution
• Reduces the risk of infection
• Moisturizes the nasal cavity
• Helps relieve symptoms of colds or allergies
“When you are healthy, you can also wash your nose, because this is done to remove dirt. It’s a very good nose wash,” he said.
How often should you wash your nose?
For adults and children, the recommended frequency is twice a day, which can be done at:
• Morning: done after showering, to clean dirt that has accumulated overnight.
• After work or in the evening to clean your nose from exposure to pollution throughout the day.
If you have a cold, the frequency can be adjusted. For example, once every three hours, or four times a day.Nadine said, what is important is that the liquid used is a NaCl solution (saline). The dosage is flexible and can be adjusted according to needs.
What is the correct technique for washing your nose?
The principle is simple, namely inserting saline fluid into the nasal cavity until the dirt is pushed out.
For adults:
• Tilt your head, for example the right nose is pointing towards the right ear so that fluid flows more optimally.
• Ideally the fluid should come out through the other nostril, but if not, that’s no problem, the important thing is that the dirt is pushed out.
For children:
• The technique is the same, only the body position can be tilted so that the fluid flows more easily.
• The process may require parental assistance so that the child feels comfortable.
