A teenager was stabbed to death

Gerson de Melo Machado (19) managed to climb a 6 meter high wall.He then fell under a tree in the cage.

Video footage taken by visitors last Sunday showed a lioness pacing under a tree as Machado got closer to the ground.
An eyewitness later said, “The lion caught him [Machado]”.
“Quickly and surprisingly, he climbed a wall more than six meters high, a security fence, accessed one of the trees, and entered the enclosure,” said the zoo, as reported

“Despite the security team’s efforts to stop him, the man acted quickly into the cage and died from injuries caused by the animal,” they added.
For the time being, Arruda Camera Park will be temporarily closed until the investigation process is complete.
“This is a very sad episode for everyone, and we extend our solidarity and condolences to his family and friends,” the zoo said.
Machado himself is known as a teenager who dreamed of becoming a lion handler.
The teenager, along with his family, reportedly had a history of mental health problems.The mother suffers from schizophrenia and they live in extreme poverty.
“He [Machado] is 19 years old. But, when he speaks, I believe his cognitive capacity is no more than a 5 year old child,” Machado’s child protection counselor, Veronica Oliveira.
“His mental health is very fragile. Had he undergone regular and serious check-ups, we would not be experiencing this now,” he added.
