A kiosk
durian
in Singapore attracted public attention after distributing 1,200 kilograms or 1.2 tonnes of free durian to the elderly.
This action sparked long queues involving more than 500 people, with some reportedly waiting for more than three hours.
The durian distribution, organized by a seller called Famous Durian at Yishun Street 81, is scheduled for 18.00 on Monday (8/12).However, around 200 elderly people had started queuing since the afternoon.

One of the lucky ones, a 71-year-old retiree who managed to secure fourth place in the queue, told

that he arrived at 15.00.
“This is the first time I have taken durian (for free), I am very happy,” he said, as reported

The 43-year-old stall owner said he held the event as a form of appreciation for the community and a way to let senior citizens enjoy durian.
“I prepared 1,200 kg of durian, which is around 1,000 durian fruit. Anyone aged 60 years and over is welcome,” he said, as quoted

He added that the fruit distributed was worth more than 10,000 Singapore dollars or around Rp. 115 million.
Initially, the elderly could each take home two durians, including one Mao Shan Wang (Musang King) variety and one different variety.This event is reportedly the fourth held by the kiosk.
In a Facebook post, the owner said he initially planned to distribute 800 kilograms, but the amount was increased thanks to the help of several suppliers.A number of volunteers were also present to help organize the crowd.
The owner admitted that the unexpectedly large crowd also prompted him to give away an additional 100 durians.All stock runs out at 19.20 p.m.
“There were about 500 to 600 people, but towards the end we realized there weren’t enough durians,” he said, noting that the elderly then only received one durian each, not two.He acknowledged that some parties were unhappy with this, but said it was unexpected.

it aims to “spread a little love” with no “return expectations, no agenda” in a world that feels “falling apart.”
“Kindness costs nothing, but it means a lot,” the post read.”I hope everyone can pass on this love and make our society a little gentler,” he continued.
