This year, the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) together with the Indonesian Catholic Bishops’ Conference (KWI) and the Indonesian Ministry of Religion have determined a Christmas theme that Christians can follow.

, the theme for Christmas 2025 that has been set by PGI and KWI is “God is Here to Save the Family”, which is taken from Matthew 1:21-24.
PGI General Chair, Rev. Jacklevyn Manuputty, explained that this theme was born out of concern for the various vulnerabilities faced by today’s families, ranging from online loans, online gambling, domestic violence, divorce, to economic pressures that make many families isolated from each other.
Therefore, churches are invited to be present in a real way to accompany vulnerable families, beyond denominational boundaries.This theme reminds us that Christmas is a celebration of God’s presence through Jesus Christ who was born into the human family.
The story of Matthew 1:21-24 emphasizes how God fulfilled the promise of salvation through the birth of Jesus in the family of Mary and Joseph.Jesus’ name itself emphasizes His mission as Savior.Joseph’s willingness to accept Mary despite facing inner struggles shows his faith and obedience to God’s work.
Through the example of this family, the church reminds us that the family is the smallest church, where Christ’s love is first manifested.The Christmas celebration is an opportunity to reflect on how God continues to be present to restore and strengthen families.
In their Christmas 2025 message, PGI and KWI also highlighted various ‘polycrises’ that have hit the world: relationship breakdown, family crises, education, ecology, and the challenges of technological developments such as artificial intelligence.Many crises arise when humans obey their own will rather than God’s will.
Therefore, Christian families are invited to open themselves to the saving presence of Christ, restore damaged relationships, and strengthen the family so that it can become a channel of love and hope for those around it.
This Christmas message also functions as a spiritual guide for the people, inviting them to bring peace, care and love into their daily lives.

set the theme “C-LIGHT: Christmas – Love in God, Harmony Together.”
This theme was chosen because it reflects that love and harmony are universal values that can unite all religious communities.Tolerance is seen as not just a discourse, but a shared commitment that needs to be maintained so that differences become strength.
The Ministry of Religion hopes that the series of Christmas 2025 activities can strengthen the value of love for humanity, encourage cross-faith encounters, and strengthen religious harmony.
