The journey, which took around eight full days, was recorded by
Guinness World Records
with a fantastic total mileage, namely around 6,213 miles or around 10,000 km.
Most of the route uses the Trans-Siberian Railway, the longest single track in the world stretching 5,772 miles from Moscow to Vladivostok.

For passengers bound for North Korea, they will travel using special carriages attached to the Trans-Siberian Train.
Upon arrival in Vladivostok, the carriage will be transferred to another train to continue the journey to Pyongyang.
This direct Moscow-Pyongyang train service has actually been around for a long time, but was completely stopped due to the strict policy restrictions imposed by North Korea during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This service officially reopened on June 17, 2025, in line with North Korea’s efforts to improve its bilateral relations with Russia.
Even though it holds the title of longest in the world, the condition of the special North Korean carriages that tourists travel on is reportedly far from well-maintained.
A group of tourists who dared to try this extreme route shared their experiences. They discovered that the heaters in the carriages did not always work.Even when the weather is very cold, the heater is only active during certain hours.
“In our compartment it was cold, there was no heating, maybe 10 degrees Celsius,” said one of the train passengers, as reported by
Mirrors
.
If the heater was off, the carriage had to be heated manually using a stove or coal. However, this is difficult to do because of the limited availability of coal.
“Individual heating requires readily available coal, and this is not the case in our North Korean sleeping car (carriage). But it doesn’t matter, we have warm clothes,” the passenger continued.
Fortunately, the water boiler in the carriage was functioning well, allowing passengers to brew tea, coffee and instant noodles to warm themselves a little during the long journey.
The train journey ending in Pyongyang takes passengers to one of the most closed and feared countries in the world, under the rule of Kim Jong Un.North Korea itself is known for strictly monitoring its citizens’ communications and limiting contact with the outside world.
