A Czech tourist, Nicola Burianova, was stranded on a train for three days, due to flash floods in
Vietnam
paralyzing his journey.
On November 18 morning local time, Burianova arrived at Saigon station.Previously, he was told that the train he was going to board, train SE2, would be delayed until 7 pm due to bad weather.
Even though he was still happy, he was already tired after waiting for hours, so he fell asleep as soon as he got on the train. In the middle of the night, Burianova woke up frightened because the train suddenly stopped.

This man suddenly turned towards the window, outside he only saw pitch darkness with the sound of heavy rain. The train made an emergency stop right at Tuy Hoa Station in Dak Lak.
Vietnam is being hit by floods, and Dak Lak is one of the provinces worst affected.Flood waters are rising, putting the road ahead at risk of eroding and threatening the safety of trains.
“The situation looks very bad. It’s raining heavily and almost no one around speaks English,” said Burianova, as reported by
VN Express
.
In the next few hours, the Nha Trang – Tuy Hoa railway and road lines were cut off.As a result, hundreds of passengers, including many foreign tourists, were stranded in the flood.
Last night passed, in the morning the condition had not improved.Logistical challenges became increasingly worrying, train staff began collecting rainwater to stock toilets.
The flood level in Tuy Hoa has not yet subsided, the main roads are still submerged under 0.5-1 meter of water.
Although passengers were allowed to leave the train during the day, Burianova quickly realized that staying on board was the safest option.
“People have to wade through waist-deep water. I’m lucky to have a dry place to sleep and get food,” he thought.
The food supplies on the train were only enough for one more day, meanwhile the staff had to rack their brains so that the remaining food could be enough for hundreds of passengers.
A rail company spokesman said as many as 30 staff passed through nearly three kilometers of floodwater to get to the local market. However, after struggling to overcome the floods, the local market is still quiet because there are rarely any traders open amidst these conditions.
They were forced to visit the remaining stalls and collect whatever they could. To meet food consumption on the train, they need at least around 50 kg of rice, more than 10 kg of meat and tens of kilograms of vegetables.
In the morning on November 20 2025, the water actually rose even higher. From inside the train, Burianova saw local residents already climbing onto the roof, anxiously awaiting rescue.
The condition of the train, where he was stranded, began to become unfavorable. The sanitation system is deteriorating, involuntary odors spread throughout the room.Even though it was uncomfortable, all passengers tried not to complain.
“Seeing the drenched train staff trying to pump water so passengers could have basic supplies for daily use, I felt my discomfort was minimal,” Burianova said.
Finally the flood began to recede on November 21.The authorities have arranged an evacuation process. That day the passengers were sent by bus to Quy Nhon, before they finally continued their journey which had been delayed for days.
Burianova ended her suffering which had lasted for 72 hours. He arrived safely in Da Nang at around 11 p.m.Then on the same day he immediately flew to Hanoi.
“I have experienced things that no book or tour itinerary can explain,” he concluded.
As additional information, at least 91 people died in the flood disaster in Vietnam, 63 people from Dak Lak Province.
