Safety Reasons Behind Price Increases
Verona’s head of culture and tourism, Marta Ugolini, said the last thing the city wants is to “restrict access to a beloved place like Juliet’s Courtyard and House.”
“However, when public safety is at stake, we are obliged to adopt appropriate protective measures, especially in the face of extraordinary flows such as those expected over the Christmas period,” explained Ugolini.
“We recognize this temporary inconvenience, but we believe this option is necessary to protect both the public and this symbolic place in our city,” he said.
“Once the agreements that have been initiated are finalized, we will be able to offer visitors a more welcoming, structured and culturally meaningful route, for the benefit of all,” he added.
Meanwhile, souvenir shop owners are also worried about how the new entry fee regulations will affect their businesses.
“I understand that on certain days, when the number of tourists is high, there is a need to manage the crowds. But to think that it will be like this from now until January 6, this will really hurt us,” Alessandra Sinico, one of the shop’s owners, told
