A broad daylight robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris last month, which resulted in a number of historical jewels worth 88 million euros or around Rp. 1.7 trillion, disappeared, apparently was carried out by petty criminals, aka petty thieves.
Paris prosecutor Laure Becuau said it was robbery

On Sunday (19/10) two weeks ago, two men parked a transfer elevator outside the Louvre, climbed to the second floor, broke a window, broke into the vitrines with an angle grinder, then fled on a motorbike driven by two accomplices in an action that lasted less than seven minutes.

According to Paris legal authorities, with three of the four suspected robbers now thought to have been arrested and the jewels still missing, the profile of the thieves does not resemble that of a professional movie gang’

“This is not an everyday delinquency… but a type of delinquency that we don’t usually associate with the higher levels of organized crime,” Paris prosecutor Laure Becuau told

Suspect ‘Local Resident’
He added that the profile of the four people who have been arrested so far, including the girlfriend of one of the robbers, is not typical of organized crime professionals capable of running complex operations.
“They are clearly locals. All live in Seine-Saint-Denis or nearby,” he said, referring to low-income areas north of Paris.
French media speculated that they were amateur robbers, as they dropped their most valuable jewels, Empress Eugenie’s crown of gold, emeralds and diamonds, while fleeing, leaving tools and other items at the scene, and failed to set fire to the moving truck before fleeing.
A week after the robbery, police arrested two men suspected of breaking into the Louvre: a 34-year-old of Algerian descent who had lived in France since 2010 and was detained as he was about to board a flight to Algeria, and a 39-year-old man who was already under judicial supervision for aggravated theft.
Beccuau said the two lived in Aubervilliers, north of Paris, and “partially admitted” their involvement. Two other suspects, a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, were arrested on October 29 and charged last Saturday (25/10).
One Person Still at Large
Beccuau said the 37-year-old man was suspected to be part of a four-person group that carried out the robbery, based on DNA found on the moving truck.
He has a record of 11 criminal convictions for various offences, including traffic violations, aggravated theft and attempted burglary of an ATM machine.
He added that the man was dating a 38-year-old woman and they had a child together, and that he and one of the two other men arrested had been convicted of the same robbery in 2015.
Traces of the woman’s DNA were also found in the moving truck, but Beccuau said they appeared to have been transferred to the truck, perhaps by a person or object that was then put into the vehicle.
The prosecutor’s office said on Saturday that the two denied involvement in the robbery. However, authorities believe three of the four robbers have been caught and at least one remains at large.
He also did not rule out the possibility of other accomplices. However, three people arrested with the couple on October 29 have been released without charge, the prosecutor’s office said on Saturday.
