Malaysia, Sofian Mohamad Sofian, known as Sofyank, has been embroiled in controversy on social media.

The Kelantan native, who has more than one million followers on Instagram, released a promotional clip for Singapore tourism on November 29, as part of a collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
The video shows Sofyank touring various iconic tourist attractions such as Jewel Changi Airport and Gardens by the Bay, as well as sampling food throughout the city-state.

Sofyank’s video promoting Singapore tourism quickly gained attention online, garnering more than 21,000 reactions.
Netizens from Singapore warmly welcomed and thanked Sofyank for presenting the country that is synonymous with the Merlion Statue in a fresh and interesting way.
“Thank you for showing the beautiful places in our country. I hope you continue to be successful,” wrote a Singaporean netizen to Sofyank, as reported

“As a Singaporean from the bottom of my heart, thank you for making this video to show that Singapore is not boring,” added another netizen.
However, the clip sparked criticism from some netizens in Malaysia.Many people question why Sofyank doesn’t promote tourism in his home country.
In Malaysia, where Sofyank is known as a renowned visual effects (VFX) content creator, for his viral illusion videos, winning the Zach King VFX challenge, and being able to collaborate with global stars.
Some netizens from neighboring countries questioned why he promoted neighboring countries instead of his own country.

“Should promote Malaysia, bro,” commented one user.While another criticized him: “After all this time, he gets awards here and there, isn’t he upholding the name of Malaysia? What’s wrong with you? What are you doing to make Malaysia proud? Weak.”
