Of the total of 100 bypass surgery patients, 69 of them experienced strokes due to moyamoya disorders, including this 3 year old toddler.
Moyamoya is characterized by blockage or narrowing of the main arteries at the base of the brain.This forces the brain to form a tangle of weak, small blood vessels in the area to compensate for the lack of blood flow.
Symptoms of stroke in children
Neurosurgeon specialist Muhammad Kusdiansah told about the 3 year old patient.Initially, the patient complained of sudden falls while playing.
Complaints such as sudden falls are commonly experienced by pediatric stroke patients as one of the symptoms.In another case, a 4 year old toddler suddenly couldn’t speak after crying.

, maybe parents need to know this, because when they cry, blood flow to their brain is disrupted.”After crying, he couldn’t speak,” explained Kudiansyah.
He appealed to parents not to ignore these symptoms.For example, children often fall suddenly, experience balance problems, appear more limp than other children their age, and their faces appear asymmetrical.
“Those who are already talking continue to have difficulty speaking, so there are obstacles. These things are early signs and must be checked immediately because strokes in children are not common. If these signs are found, it could be a moyamoya disorder,” said Kusdiansyah.
