The Philippines closed out seven
airport
in the Bicol Region and canceled a total of 171 domestic flights as well as 19 international flights on Sunday (9/11).
This step was taken following the emergence of Typhoon Fung Wong or known locally as Typhoon Uwan in North Luzon with sustained wind speeds reaching 185 kilometers per hour.

Airlines have announced that flight cancellations may continue until Wednesday (12/11), depending on weather conditions and airport operations, according to reports

Two Killed and Millions Affected
The Philippine Coast Guard reported that as many as 6,607 people, including passengers, crew and cargo staff, were stranded at 86 ports across the country as of Monday morning (10/11).
Typhoon Fung Wong itself was reported to be moving away from the northwestern Philippines on Monday (10/11) morning after triggering floods and landslides, cutting off power to entire provinces, killing at least two people, and forcing more than 1.4 million people to evacuate, according to reports

This typhoon entered the South China Sea (East Sea) on Monday (10/11) morning, making it the 14th hurricane in the area this year.Fung Wong is expected to head northwest towards Taiwan.
Typhoon Fung Wong hit the Philippines as the country was still struggling to overcome severe damage caused by the previous Typhoon Kalmaegi, which killed at least 224 people.Post-typhoon recovery efforts are currently the main focus of the Philippine government.
