Italy
offers an interesting solution: half the cost of renting your residence will be covered by the local government, as long as you are willing to move there.

Life here won’t be fast-paced or busy, but you will wake up to stunning views of the northern Italian countryside every morning.

, your days will be spent exploring medieval cobbled streets and pretty little buildings, without having to worry about spending your entire salary on monthly rent.
The only ‘challenges’ are its very small size, with less than 1,000 residents, and its rather remote location. The nearest city, Siena, is about a 50-minute drive away, although Florence is only about an hour away by car.
To cope with the decreasing population, the Radicondoli city council allocated 300 thousand euros or around IDR 5.8 million to fund businesses and build new facilities, in the hope of revitalizing the local economy.
The city authorities explain on their website that the aim is to improve the quality of life of the community, stimulate economic and housing development, and also invite new friends to join the community.
As well as providing rent subsidies to property owners, meaning cheaper rents for renters, the Italian government also offers grants to commuters (people who commute to work).
Then there is the construction of new schools and daycares, plus funding for communities to install environmentally friendly heating.
To qualify for a half-off rental fee, you must commit to staying for a minimum of four years.
Having enjoyed cheap rents and being ready to commit long-term, Radicondoli also covers between 15-25 per cent of the house costs for first home buyers, up to a maximum of 20,000 euros. This is a grant that you don’t have to pay back, as long as you don’t move within ten years.
Radicondoli isn’t the only Italian city trying to grow its population with attractive offerings.Several other places made headlines for selling houses for 1 euro, even though the houses needed intensive renovation and extra attention.
The situation is different in Radicondoli, the houses there are still in good condition, it’s just that the location is far from the crowds.Additionally, you have to be prepared, as the locals most likely don’t speak English, so mastering Italian is a must.
