, Thailand.A video showing Miss Universe Mexico, Fatima Bosch, being scolded by a beauty pageant director from Thailand has gone viral and sparked a wave of anger and global debate about misogyny and women’s empowerment.

When Bosch tried to explain, Nawat cut him off with the words, “I didn’t give you a chance to talk,” before calling security to throw him out.
This action made a number of other contestants stand up and leave the room as a form of solidarity, who were then threatened with elimination if they did not return to their seats.
Insulted, but not silent
Bosch, 25 years old, remained graceful and strong despite the harsh treatment. In the video he uploaded on TikTok, Bosch called Nawat’s actions a form of insult to himself and women in general.
“He told me to be quiet, and said other things that were inappropriate. The world needs to know this. We are empowered women, and this is a platform for our voices. Nobody can silence our voices,” said Bosch firmly, quoting

The President of the Miss Universe Organization, Raúl Rocha, also condemned Nawat’s actions and banned her from being involved in official activities of the event.Rocha said Nawat had humiliated and intimidated an innocent woman.
“I have limited Nawat’s participation in the 74th Miss Universe as much as possible, perhaps even eliminating it completely,” Rocha said in a Spanish-language statement.
Nawat later issued an open apology, admitting he did not mean to hurt anyone, and regretted his actions.
Support from the President of Mexico
This case also attracted the attention of the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, who called Bosch’s courage a clear example of a woman who chose to speak out.
“Women look more beautiful when we dare to speak out and participate. Because that is a form of recognition of our rights,” said Sheinbaum at a press conference.
Sheinbaum touched on the sexist phrase women in her country often receive, “Calladita te ves más bonita” (you look prettier when you’re still), and emphasized that the phrase must be changed into a call for empowerment.
This incident also gave rise to reflections from activists and former beauty queens.Catalina Ruiz Navarro, a feminist journalist from Colombia, believes that this incident reveals the patriarchy that is still inherent in the world of beauty pageants.
“Miss Universe is an event that still controls women’s bodies, how they should appear, behave and conform to certain standards. But Bosch’s courage shows the limits they are starting to push against,” said Ruiz.
Miss Universe 2023 from Nicaragua, Sheynnis Palacios, also spoke out.
“The crown should not come at the expense of a woman’s dignity,” she wrote on social media.
Meanwhile, Alicia Machado, Miss Universe 1996 from Venezuela, believes that unethical practices at international beauty events still often occur. He called for the stage to be used to fight for gender equality.
