Many Malaysian netizens responded to this view in a satirical and sarcastic tone.”You are absolutely right. Malaysia is 50 years behind Bangkok. We in Kuala Lumpur live in tree houses. There are no malls, no hotels, no airports. We travel on cows and buffalo,” wrote one netizen, as reported

Another netizen praised Bangkok as a “modern, progressive, tolerant and open” city, and claimed toilets in Bangkok were cleaner than most parts of Kuala Lumpur.
However, he added that Bangkok’s traffic, pollution and crowd problems were “insane.”
Despite heated debate on social media, data shows Malaysia is the most visited country in Southeast Asia, recording 24.5 million arrivals in the first seven months of this year, an increase of 16.8% year-on-year.Malaysia is targeting 47 million international arrivals and US$80 billion in revenue for its Visit Malaysia 2026 program.
