Around 20 tourists were finally successfully evacuated after being trapped for nine hours on the highest Ferris wheel

, Osaka Wheel, in Osaka Prefecture, on Tuesday (25/11) evening local time.
This incident occurred after a lightning strike forced the Ferris wheel to make an emergency stop.

Officers initially attempted to turn the Ferris wheel manually to disembark passengers, but the process was very slow.
Emergency fire and rescue teams were then deployed to deal with the incident, as well as help evacuate the tourists.
According to a Kyodo News Agency report, the last ride passengers were successfully evacuated safely in the early hours of Wednesday morning at 02.41 local time.Luckily, there were no injuries in this Ferris wheel incident.
General Manager of Public Relations for the Osaka Wheel operator, Takeshi Niwa, stated that his party was investigating the cause of the ride stopping and re-evaluating emergency response procedures.
According to him, the lightning strike likely disrupted the Ferris wheel’s commercial power supply, triggering an emergency stop.
The Osaka Wheel suffered serious damage and is currently still closed with no definite schedule for when it will reopen.This popular attraction is not far from the Tower of the Sun, which was the icon of the Japan World Exposition in 1970.
