Despite eliminating fireworks, Pramono emphasized that New Year celebrations in Jakarta will still be held.As a global city, Jakarta will still be in the world’s spotlight at the turn of the year. However, this time the celebration was directed to be carried out in a modest manner.
Pramono explained that the main reason behind eliminating the luxury of fireworks was a sense of national solidarity. He highlighted the natural disasters that recently hit a number of areas on the island of Sumatra, including Aceh, West Sumatra and North Sumatra.
“I don’t want us to show excessive luxury and not have empathy for what is happening to our brothers and sisters in Sumatra,” he stressed.
In return, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) will provide a special space for the community to reflect and pray together for the disaster victims.
Pramono hopes that New Year’s Eve in Jakarta will be a momentum for contemplation and gratitude, without hindering the way each citizen celebrates it.
Event Details Will Be Decided Next Monday
Regarding the series of official events that will be held in Jakarta, Pramono said that the details will only be decided on Monday (22/12).
The decision will include the location points for the event as well as the technical implementation of drone attractions as a substitute for fireworks.
“There will definitely be a special place for us to reflect, pray and contemplate,” he concluded.
