Pondok Indah Hospital, a specialist in breast surgery, Karmile, said that crying is not the main cause of hernias.According to him, hernia holes in children generally already exist before.
“Actually, the hernia hole already exists. So it’s not because of crying that the stomach wall becomes weak,” said Karmile, Central Jakarta, Thursday (19/12).
When a baby cries, continued Karmile, the pressure in the stomach increases.This condition causes stomach contents such as intestines to be pushed out through the existing hole so that the lump becomes visible.

Therefore, parents don’t need to worry if their little one cries.Instead of worrying, parents are advised to be aware of several symptoms of hernias in children as follows:
– lump or swelling near the groin or navel,
– pain around the groin or lower abdomen,
– crying or fussing for no reason,
– a bulge that is visible and enlarges when straining, crying and coughing.
