Concerns about eating chicken feet arise because consuming excess cholesterol can increase the risk of heart disease.
According to Nutritionist at Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya, Tri Kurniawati, 100 grams of chicken feet contain 84 mg of cholesterol. This is equivalent to 20 percent of an adult’s daily cholesterol needs.
Chicken feet also contain 5.5 grams of unsaturated fat per 100 grams or the equivalent of 60 percent of daily requirements.
“So if you consume chicken feet in large quantities or frequently, it will cause an increase in cholesterol which, if it occurs continuously, will cause the body to tire easily and can even ultimately cause heart failure or stroke,” said Tri as quoted from the UM Surabaya website, as quoted from

Even so, chicken feet don’t just contain cholesterol.Tri said that chicken feet have a water content of 65.08 percent, fat 3.90 percent, protein 20.10 percent and ash 8.16 percent.
There are also 19 types of amino acids that are important for the body, such as aspartic acid, glutamine, hydroxyproline, serine, glycine, histidine, aginine, threonine, alanine, proline, tyrosine, valine, methionine, cystine, ileucine, phenylalanine, tryptophan and lysine.

, the collagen in chicken feet also helps increase hydration, elasticity and skin density.
A review of 11 studies involving 805 people showed that consuming collagen had promising short-term and long-term effects, including speeding wound healing and slowing skin aging.
This amount is because collagen works together with hyaluronic acid which functions to retain water which is believed to help prevent skin aging.
“The biggest component that makes up chicken feet is collagen, which is 5.64 – 31.39 percent or 28.73 – 36.83 percent of the total protein,” said Tri.
With these contents, chicken feet can still be beneficial for health if eaten in moderation.
“It is said to be frequent if consumed more than three times in one week and in amounts of more than one portion and continuously,” he added.
