, this warning was issued following reports of increased incidents of attacks targeting Chinese citizens.
The Hong Kong Security Bureau updated overseas travel information on its website on Saturday (15/11), stating that since mid-2025, there has been a trend of increasing incidents of attacks on Chinese citizens in Japan.

The bureau urged Hong Kong residents who are planning to travel to Japan or who are already there to remain vigilant.Hong Kong citizens are also expected to pay attention to personal safety.

, this warning came shortly after Mainland China last week advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Japan.
The suggestion follows a diplomatic row sparked by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s statement about a hypothetical attack on Taiwan.
Despite the tensions, Japan recorded a big spike in foreign visits.The number of foreign visitors to Japan between January and September rose 17.7 percent from the previous year to around 31.65 million people.
The figure for foreign tourist arrivals marks the fastest rate in history, surpassing 30 million arrivals in a year.
China itself has been the largest source of visitors for Japan so far this year with around 7.49 million visitors, up 42.7 percent from the previous year.
Last July, the number of visitors from Hong Kong fell amid rumors of an earthquake, but the situation improved in the following months before the safety alert emerged.
