Internal medicine doctor, kidney disease subspecialist from Pondok Indah Hospital, Ni Made Hustrini, emphasized that the body needs to be well hydrated so that organ function is maintained. The reason is, dehydration can be very dangerous for the body, both severe dehydration and mild dehydration.
“Water helps blood vessels work so that blood can flow properly to the kidneys. When you are dehydrated, problems can occur from the cellular level to the organ level. Mild dehydration can make a person feel tired and have difficulty concentrating,” said Ni Made Hustrini, in her statement, Thursday (19/20).
He added that the impact of dehydration cannot be considered trivial. If mild dehydration can cause loss of concentration, then severe dehydration can cause kidney damage.
“Therefore, it is important to drink enough when working or doing heavy exercise, especially during hot and humid weather,” he added.
Not only that, water also plays a role in the process of treating urinary tract infections.According to Ni Made Hustrini, water helps dissolve antibiotics used to treat infections so that their effectiveness increases.
Adequate fluid intake also helps the body produce more urine, which functions to clean infection-causing bacteria from the urinary tract. The role of water in preventing kidney stones is no less important.
“Kidney stones do not form easily if there is enough water to prevent the stone-forming crystals from sticking together,” he explained.
However, it’s not just the amount of water that needs to be considered, the quality of drinking water is also quite crucial.Water that appears clear is not necessarily free from contaminants. Therefore, the choice of source and water treatment process determines the safety of water consumed daily.
Head of Marketing Amidis, Astrid Adelaide Siregar said it is important to choose drinking water that has gone through a process of heating to a high temperature or distillation.
“Choose drinking water that has been boiled at a temperature above 110 degrees Celsius. So the water vapor produced is truly pure and safe for consumption because there are no contaminants whatsoever,” said Astrid.
He reminded the public to be more critical in choosing drinking water.By ensuring the body is sufficiently hydrated and choosing quality drinking water, the risk of health problems, especially to the kidneys, can be reduced.
“Don’t swallow it raw, think carefully when choosing drinking water,” he said.
