Thailand
is now tightening checks to prevent foreign nationals (WNA) from abusing visa-free facilities to carry out illegal activities and crimes in the country.
Thailand’s Immigration Bureau said some visitors had abused the 90-day visa-free policy, especially in expatriate hubs such as Pattaya, Phuket and Hua Hin.

The visa waiver program allows citizens of 93 countries to enter Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa, with the option to extend for an additional 30 days by reporting at the immigration office.
However, under the new rules, tourists who make more than two visa runs or exit and re-enter without a valid reason may be refused entry to Thailand.
Based on a statement on the Thai Government’s Department of Public Relations website, foreign travelers will be required to obtain an official visa to re-enter the Land of the White Elephant.
So far this year, immigration authorities have denied entry to around 2,900 people for abusing visa-free privileges.Thai immigration offices will also closely monitor requests for temporary extension of stay.
The Immigration Bureau said these increased checks may slightly slow passport processing during peak periods, but they promised to deploy additional staff to maintain efficiency.
The Thai government has stepped up immigration checks and crackdowns on illegal activities following a spike in the number of drug-related crimes and foreigners working illegally.
Thailand received more than 26.6 million foreign arrivals in the first 10 months of this year, although this figure represents a decline of 7.2 percent compared to 2024.
