Yarman admits that the views along the Rinjani route actually offer charm that is even more stunning during the rainy season. However, this condition requires much more thorough preparation than usual.
“Mount Rinjani is always interesting to visit, especially during the rainy season. But climbing in the rainy season requires extra preparation,” he said.
The TNGR Center explains a number of mandatory equipment that climbers need to prepare to anticipate wet weather:
– Waterproof Equipment: Includes a raincoat and cover bag to protect the backpack.
– Waterproof Shoes: Important for keeping feet dry and reducing the risk of hypothermia.
Apart from equipment, Yarman also warned climbers to always consider the latest weather forecasts and the status of climbing routes before starting the journey.
“Of course, if it rains, the route you normally follow will also become slippery, so we need to remind climbers to always be alert,” he said, while emphasizing the risk of slipping due to muddy and slippery climbing routes.
Mount Rinjani has an official climbing season determined by the National Park Office. It’s best to avoid starting the climb during the rainy season because the path becomes slippery and risky.
Climbers should also check the weather forecast several days in advance. If there is information about storms or thick fog, it is best to postpone your trip to climb Rinjani for safety.
