Holly Thomson was confused when she read the review. In that review, one visitor claimed that earplugs (
earplugs
) weren’t quite able to block out the sound of the sheep’s bleating during their stay.
In fact, the lodge is located in the middle of a pasture containing 100 sheep and is explicitly advertised as a property that “offers a taste of ranch life.”
The farm life experience offered does not seem to be enough for guests to prepare themselves for the atmosphere. After staying, the guest left a scathing criticism with a three-star rating, which immediately caused Holly’s five-star score to plummet.
“It was ridiculous. We found it quite funny too. What did you expect? You can’t stop animals being animals,” said Holly, as reported

“It’s clear that you’re coming because you want to experience country life. We’re very remote and that’s a selling point. It’s great for people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle,” he added.
The angry guest also described the lodge’s clean and modern interior as “a little lacking in character” in his three-star review.
In the past, Holly’s properties have received numerous five-star ratings, even being classified as “one of Airbnb’s most beloved homes.”
Protest at Airbnb and Goes Viral on TikTok
Holy, who is a mother of two, has now filed a complaint with Airbnb regarding the guest’s nagging attitude, in the hope that the company can remove the review.
“What we learned quickly was how important reviews are to our business. Since we were new to this, we read every review we got,” says Holly.
“I checked my email and got a notification from Airbnb that I had my first three-star review. This girl wrote a review saying the sheep were too loud and she was wearing earplugs, but it didn’t stop the noise at night.”
“It’s in the name of our business, so I’m not really sure what he was expecting. It’s part of the experience, seeing the sheep. If you saw where we were, you’d know we were in the countryside,” he said, feeling disappointed.
Holly also shared a video on TikTok, which was recorded inside the property, teasing the tourist. The video was viewed more than 750,000 times on the platform.
“I am devastated. We have poured our hearts and souls into this holiday hotel and it was a huge risk for us as young diversified farmers,” he concluded.
Regarding this incident, Airbnb stated that they have a strict review policy to ensure the feedback provided is authentic, trustworthy and useful to the community.
The platform states that reviews are only removed in limited circumstances when users are found to be violating review policies. However, users can respond to reviews publicly, including if they disagree.
