Following the visit, Kim Jong Un ordered a comprehensive review of the site, specifically to revise the design to reflect a modern aesthetic.
“Yeombunjin offers excellent coastal views, and its proximity to railways, waterways and roads offers excellent transportation,” Kim Jong Un praised during the inspection, as reported

North Korea Expands Coastal Tourism
Reflecting on the success of the newly opened Wonsan-Kalma Coastal Tourist Zone, North Korea plans to expand tourism infrastructure to other potential areas.During an inspection in Wonsan-Kalma last July, Kim Jong Un emphasized his country’s long-term vision.
“Given the many beautiful spots in the East Sea, including Mount Kumgang, Mount Chilbo, Majon, Kumya, Riwon and Yeombunjin, we must maintain policies that focus on rational use of abundant coastal tourism resources in the tourism sector in the future,” he said.
In line with this vision, an official of North Korea’s National Tourism Administration in an interview last September confirmed that based on the achievements and experiences of Wonsan-Kalma, North Korea will continue to build various large-scale cultural and tourism zones in various regions.
