Baby
with the rare condition of being born in Aceh.The baby has 10 toes on his left foot or what is scientifically called
mirror foot
or polididikti.
This case was discovered by the team of Aceh doctors who handled it.The case finding study was published in
Journal of International Surgery and Clinical Medicine
(JISCM) in 2024.

“Clinical examination showed [the baby’s] left foot had finger plates,” doctors wrote in the study.

From the results of the examination, the baby had no history of incest, a history of similar abnormalities, and was born at term.During pregnancy, the mother also did not show any problems.
Apart from that, the team of doctors also found increased bone structure.This condition was discovered through a radiological process.
The baby is congenital
talipes equinovarus
(CTEV) or clubfoot condition and
genu recurvatum
(knees curve back).
The baby also had to undergo surgery to form more functional legs with a natural appearance.
After six months post-surgery, the shape of the baby’s feet looked normal.However, walking ability cannot be assessed because the patient is still too young.
Due to limited facilities in Aceh, the patient was then referred to one of the pediatric orthopedic hospitals in Jakarta for further treatment.
