) which is excessive in the body.Although it often attacks the big toe, gout can also affect the knees, ankles, hands and elbows.

Internal medicine specialist, dr.Rudy Kurniawan, SpPD, revealed that an unhealthy lifestyle, especially the habit of consuming certain foods and drinks, is the main trigger for a spike in uric acid levels.
The following are the types of food and drinks you should be wary of because of their high purine or fructose content
1. Foods High in Purine:
– Offal (eg liver, kidney, gizzard).
– Certain seafood.
– Red meat.
– Chicken skin.
2. Sweet or High Fructose Drinks:
– Bubble tea.
– Soda drinks.
– Sweet tea.
“Many young people today have a diet high in sugar & purine, and their physical activity is low,” said Dr.Rudy, as reported by Detik, Tuesday (4/11).
He concluded, “Modern lifestyle and diet play a big role.”
Strategies for Overcoming and Preventing Gout
According to Dr.Rudy, prevention and treatment of gout can be done through consistent lifestyle changes:
The following actions are recommended to treat and prevent gout.
Hydration: Drink lots of water (2-3 liters per day) to help flush out uric acid.
Diet: Limit high-purine foods and sugary drinks.
Lifestyle: Reduce junk food and fatty meat.
Positive Nutrition: Consume more vegetables, fruit and whole grains.
Physical Activity: Regular exercise for at least 30 minutes per day.
General Health: Maintain ideal body weight.
Medical: Consult a doctor and check uric acid levels regularly.If necessary, carry out drug therapy as recommended by your doctor.
