A tragic incident happened to someone
tourist
in the waters of Hadera, Israel, who died after being attacked by a group of dusky sharks.
This incident surprised the public and scientists, considering that dusky sharks are known as a species that is generally not aggressive and tends to avoid humans.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said that one of the sharks suddenly launched itself at the camera, followed by the victim’s clear cry, “Help… they’re biting me!”The sea water is said to have immediately turned dark red, and shark fins were clearly visible on the surface before the victim disappeared behind the waves.
The rescue team that arrived at the location did not find any victims. The search only yielded results the next day, with officers only managing to find a very small number of body parts.
“These findings allowed for forensic identification of the victim, as well as leading to the conclusion that he had been eaten by several sharks during this incident,” the officer’s report said.
Sharks Become Aggressive Due to Human Habits
Scientists believe that these unusually extreme attacks were likely triggered by a combination of environmental conditions and human intervention. The triggering factors include warm water coming from desalination plants, high levels of food waste in the waters, and most highlighted, the human habit of feeding sharks.
Sea tour operators in the area reportedly often throw fish remains into the sea. This action is carried out so that sharks continue to appear near tourist boats, which unfortunately makes sharks associate human presence as a food source.
Experts call this new behavioral pattern ‘begging’, where sharks approach and even touch divers to ask for food. The researchers strongly suspect that the fighting conditions for food in Hadera waters have shifted the natural behavior of dusky sharks.
“Competition for access to food resources overrides the species’ normal behavior, including the intrinsic, non-instinctive traits of its (human) prey,” the research report states.
They concluded that this incident likely occurred in two stages: “A reflex bite driven by food, then progressing to multiple predatory bites triggered by a large appetite.”
Researchers are now urging the importance of preventive measures and strict regulation of human interactions with sharks to avoid a similar tragedy from happening again.
