The H1N1 PDM09 virus itself triggered a global pandemic in 2009 and is often known as ‘swine flu’.
Responding to these findings, Former WHO Southeast Asia Director of Infectious Diseases, Professor Tjandra Yoga Aditama, said that H1N1 PDM09 was the virus that triggered the 2009 pandemic.
He added that the virus was the first pandemic declared by WHO after the implementation of the 2005 International Health Regulations (IHR).
“Initially it was called swine or swine flu, but then it was discovered that its transmission was not limited, so the term swine flu should no longer be used,” said Prof Tjandra, Wednesday (26/11), as reported by

According to him, the majority of H1N1 viruses currently circulating are H1N1 PDM09 and are classified as seasonal influenza.

Prof Tjandra emphasized three main steps to suppress the spread of this virus. Here are some of them.
1. Healthy lifestyle
Maintain your immune system, wash your hands, cover your mouth when coughing, and wear a mask if you are sick.
Don’t forget to always eat balanced nutritious food to meet your daily nutritional needs.
2. Influenza vaccination
Annual vaccines help prevent severe symptoms, especially in children and vulnerable groups.
3. Antiviral drugs
Antiviral administration is recommended for patients with severe symptoms. However, most cases of influenza are mild.
He also reminded the importance of continuous monitoring of various influenza strains.
“The world, including us, must continue to monitor trends, increases in cases and potential outbreaks,” he added.
The public is advised to immediately check themselves if they experience symptoms of respiratory problems, especially children who are more susceptible to complications.
