Based on more than 145 thousand participants interviewed in 144 countries, this report reveals that feelings of security are influenced by the foundations of everyday life, rather than global events.
This report also shows a list of the safest countries in the world to walk around at night.Singapore, Tajikistan and China are the top three countries on the list.
These countries have a set of conditions that make safety feel like a part of everyday life.
In Singapore, China, and the Gulf states, for example, perceptions of safety stem from centralized governance and the visibility of law enforcement.
These countries have high infrastructure investment and supervision.The existence of law enforcement authority is part of the social order.The result is a sense of order and predictability that produces a sense of security, even at night.
Meanwhile, other countries such as Norway have beliefs that bind between communities.Trust in institutions and collective responsibility creates an environment in which people assume that others will act within the law.
